NEW DELHI (INDIA): The government of India will review the implementation of various urban development schemes in seven Union Territories at a two-day meeting beginning here tomorrow.
On the second day, Urban Development Minister M Venkaiah Naidu will chair the review meeting with the Lieutenant Governors (LGs) of Delhi, Puducherry, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Chandigarh, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, Daman & Diu, and Lakshadweep, an official release said.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and his Puducherry counterpart V Narayanasamy have also been invited to the meeting. Delhi and Puducherry are the two UTs with elected legislatures.
On the first day, the national mission directors of various schemes will undertake detailed review of the progress and implementation issues with officials from UTs.
The schemes to be reviewed include Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT), Smart City Mission, Swachh Bharat Mission (Urban), Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) and Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana-National Urban Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NULM).
Various issues relating to urban transport will also be discussed, the release said.
The government has approved investments for the five-year mission period for all the seven UTs under AMRUT to revamp basic civic infrastructural facilities such as water supply, sewerage and urban transport.
It has also approved investments for smart city plans of New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC), Chandigarh and Port Blair.
Special focus will be on sanitation with only three of the 16 towns in these UTs having been declared open defecation free so far, the release said.
Naidu has already reviewed the progress of various urban missions in 22 states.
The progress of schemes in Andhra Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Odisha, Punjab, Telangana and West Bengal is still to be reviewed.
