MUMBAI: The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has issued a notice to Yash Raj Films for allegedly carrying out illegal constructions in its studio in Andheri, according to Mumbai Mirror.
According to BMC officials, the studio management has carried out several alterations and even enclosed a basement without necessary approvals, which can invite mishaps like fire.
Yash Raj Films has now been asked to demolish the illegal extensions, failing which the BMC will swing into action and undertake demolitions on its own.
The iconic Yash Raj studio, pioneered by legendary filmmaker Yash Chopra, is located at Veera Desai road in Andheri.
The studio consists of multi-storeyed buildings, including offices.
The BMC had received complaints about irregularities on the studio premises and wrote to the management about it. An inspection by a civic team last month confirmed unauthorised alterations and constructions on the premises.
According to a notice served by the BMC to buildings nos. 1 and 2 under section 53 (1) of MRTP Act on March 6, the studio has unauthorised partitions made of glass and plywood right from the ground to the fourth floor, and also the service floor. Besides, the basement is being used for storage, which is in contravention of the studio’s Occupation Certificate.
The relevant section of the MRTP Act states that in case of such violations, the owner has to restore the structure as per approved plans or apply to the building proposals department for regularisation.
