NEW DELHI: India’s Road Transport & Highways, Shipping, Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation Minister Nitin Gadkari will lay the foundation stone for 138.5 km of highways projects worth Rs 873.5 crores in Shimoga district in Karnataka today .

Gadkari is on a two day official tour of the state where he will lay the foundation stone for over 500 km of highways projects worth over Rs 3700 crores in the districts of Shimoga, Bellary, Bidar, Bijapur and Hubli. The project details are as follows :

Speaking at an event in  Shimoga     today Shri Gadkari announced that the Centre has plans to  invest approximately an amount of Rs 1,44,922 cr in the Karnataka  in the next two years. The investments would include :

The Minister informed that 6805 Km of National Highways have been declared in Karnataka between 2014-2017, as against only 6760 km upto 2014. With this the total length of national highways in the state has gone upto 13565 Km, including 6433 km declared in principle. He said, while there are 105 ongoing projects of length 2795 km worth Rs 19,638 Crores, another 19 projects of length 230 km and cost Rs 1676 crore will soon be awarded. 34 projects of length 4000 km and costing Rs 25000 crores have already been tendered while DPR is being prepared for 34 more projects. The following are the important highways projects in the state of Karnataka

Bangalore Ring Road (STRR)

NHAI has taken up the work of balance portion of STRR for Bangalore (West side) to Hosur in Tamil Nadu (connecting NH-4 to NH-7) under Bharatmala.
This Ring Road stretch connects Hosur, Anekal, Kanakapura, Ramanagara, Magadi, Dobaspet.
The total length of this ring road is about 140 km in Karnataka State and 45 km in Tamil Nadu with a tentative cost of Rs. 10,000 crores.
Shiradi Ghat Tunnel:

The work of construction of Tunnel for Shiradi Ghat for a length of 23.60 km with a tentative cost of Rs. 10,000 crores.
The project consists of 6 No. of tunnels with a total length of 12.60 kms.
The tunnel also connects with bridges having a longest bridge of 1.50 km with highest peer of 100 mtr.
The tunnel consists of 2 driving lane with one emergency lane for each tube i.e. 10.50 m carriage way width
Ring Road to Belgaum:

The construction of 4/6 laning of Belgaum bypass on western side with eastern side by connecting NH-4A to NH-4 having a total length of 55 km.
The tentative cost for this bypass will be around Rs. 1500 crores.
This bypass will ease the traffic congestion and to facilitate the through traffic in the city,
Six laning of Access Control of Bangalore – Mysore Section of Bangalore – Mallapuram economic corridor

This project is a part of economic corridor of Bangalore – Mallapuram.
Total length is 117 kms with an estimated cost of Rs. 7000 crores
This project consists of about 8 km elevated corridors, 9 major bridges and 4 ROBs.
The entire project has been provided with Access Controlled Service Road.
DPR has already been completed and bids have been received and are under evaluation.

Chennai- Bangalore Expressway:

Bangalore – Chennai Expressway is on a new alignment which will connected Bangalore with Chennai which is an import/export hub due to existence of sea port.
This project is identified as one of the priority projects under Chennai – Bangalore Industrial Corridor (CBIC).
It will provide connectivity to the proposed Multimodal Logistic Park at Dobaspet which can be accessed through NH-207 or Bangalore Ring Road from BCE.
This expressway passes through three states namely 76 kms in Karnataka, 91 kms in Andhra Pradesh & 94 km in Tamil Nadu with a tentative cost of Rs. 16,000 crores.
Land acquisition is in advance stage in Karnataka State.
Amaravati – Bengaluru section:

The connectivity between Bangalore and Amaravathi is through two routes – via Ananthapuramu and via Tirupathi.
Bengaluru to Amaravathi via Ananthapuramu passess through NH-7 – has already been completed with 4 lane Elevated Highway of 4.50 km enroute to Bengaluru International Airport (BIA).
The road from Bangalore to Amaravathi via Tirupathi passess through NH-4 and has already been completed to 4/6 lane (Bangalore – Kolar – Mulbagal –KNT/AP border).
Hyderabad – Bangalore section:

The connectivity between two Capital Cities i.e. Bangalore and Hyderabad via Ananthapuramu through NH-7 has already been developed with 4 lane Elevated Highway of 4.50 km enroute to Bengaluru International Airport (BIA).
Bharat Mala Project details for Karnataka

41 nos of works aggregating to 3,726 Km amounting to Rs. 85,000 Cr are approved under Bharat Mala Programme.
13nos of projects for a length of 1,435 Km amounting to Rs.20,000Cr is under implementation.
12nos of projects for a length of 645 Km amounting to Rs.15,000 Cr is under bidding stage.
16nos of projects for a length of 1646Km amounting to Rs.50,000 Cr is under DPR stage.
Sethu Bharatam Project Details for Karnataka

07 ROBs aggregating to Rs.473Cr are under tendering.
Out of 7 Nos, 1 No. of ROB included under the 4 laning of Ballari – Hiriyur section under Bharatmala Pariyojana is being implemented.
